Obituary of Homer A. Mercer

Homer A. Mercer, age 82, of Lake Alfred, Florida, passed away on January 5th, 2022. Homer was born on July 8, 1939 to James C. Mercer and Sara E. Mercer, of Wayside, Georgia. Homer, served in the U.S. Navy then retired from The State of Florida Department of Agriculture. He was a Mason of the Winter Haven chapter. He loved visiting friends at local restaurants, Andy's Igloo and LA Diner, and could be spotted enjoying coffee and conversation with friends. He attended Greater Vision Freewill Baptist Church. He is survived by his nephew Richard (Pamela) Skudlarek; great-nephews, Thomas Skudlarek and Kevin Skudlarek; great-nieces, Sara Skudlarek, Katelyn Austin, and Kristen Austin. His partner Peggy Eldridge; her daughter, Shannon Frady (Scott); her grandsons, Brenden 'Kade' Akins and Toby Rush; her granddaughters, Makayla Akins and Amy Fluty. Even though Peggy's daughter and grandchildren were not Homer's own he treated them as such and loved them like his own. Homer 'Gramps' touched our hearts in many ways and brought sunshine into our lives. We will deeply miss his smile, determination (some would say stubbornness), and most of all, his unconditional love. His work on earth is done and now it's time for him to rest. Our love for him will always remain in our hearts. 'I have fought the good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith' 2 Timothy 4:7
