Obituary of Marilyn Ann Tharp

Marilyn Ann Tharp, 82, of Winter Haven FL passed away January 11th, 2022, while in hospice care. Marilyn was born on February 20th, 1939, in Louisville Ky. to parents Thresa Geraldine Mattingly and Gilbert Henry Hartlage Sr. She attended Shepherdsville High School where she met and married her husband Thilo Charles Tharp of Bullitt County Ky. They remained happily married and inseparable partners for 60 years until his passing in 2015. Marilyn worked as a telephone operator for the University of Louisville Hospital in Louisville while raising her three children Michael, Julie, and Greg before relocating to Florida. She moved to Winter Haven’s Garden Grove neighborhood in 1980 and was employed for 20 years at the Gessler Medical Clinic until her retirement in 2002. She was a devoted selfless caregiver to both her parents and her mother-in-law and was a loving mother figure to all who met her. Marilyn was also a deeply spiritual member of the Saint Matthew’s Catholic Church for over 40 years. Marilyn enjoyed fishing trips, vacations, reading, and entertaining her extended family and many friends. She was a member of the Winter Haven Adam and Eve fishing club. Being from Kentucky she attended many Derby parties and enjoyed horse racing. Her friendly, outgoing, fun and lively personality will be missed by all that knew her. She is survived by her sister Theresa Darlean Morrison, Shepherdsville Ky, brother William Patrick Hartlage, Louisville Ky. and brother Gilbert Henry Hartlage Jr., Mantua NJ. By her children: Michael Anthony Tharp (Tami), Orlando FL, Julie Ann Barker (David), Lexington Ky. and Gregory Scott Tharp (Lynda) of Winter Haven FL. She was a proud Grandmother to her six grandsons, Andrew Lee Booth, Grant Nicholas Tharp, Taylor Curtis Booth, Austin Scott Tharp, Chase Trenton Tharp, and Brandon Lee Tharp. The family will receive friends from 1:30 pm till 2:30 pm, Saturday, January 15, 2022, at Oak Ridge Funeral Care, 2425 Havendale Blvd., Winter Haven, FL 33881. Funeral Services at 2:30pm followed by interment at Auburndale Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers please make memorial donations to the Humane Society of Polk County.
