Obituary of Reverend Arnold DeYoung

Reverend Arnold DeYoung, 89, of Haines City, Florida passed away on Monday, November 7, 2022.

He was born on Friday, April 14, 1933, in Prairie View, Kansas to Herbert Theodore and Letitia Elizabeth Roberts DeYoung and was raised on the family farm in Norton County, Kansas. After high school, Arnold went to Anderson College in Anderson, Indiana where he obtained his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Theology. It’s not to say it was all studies during that time, as Arnold met and fell in Love with Ms. Marylin Curtiss. They met in 1951 and were married in 1953 and settled down to raise a family. Arnold would continue his education and obtained a second master’s degree in counseling and guidance from Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

He started his career in Ministry and by the time he retired some 37 years later he had pastored in Indiana, Michigan, Kansas and Wisconsin; six different churches in total. Also, during his pastoring, he served as a schoolteacher for some five years, while in Indiana and Michigan. He was an avid golfer and Arnold, and Marylin were quite the world travelers, in fact they have visited 62 countries and after his retirement in 1993, they traveled the United States for a few years, before settling in Haines City.

He was predeceased by his parents, Herbert and Letitia; sister, Blanche Steinaker and her husband Norman; sister, Joyce Reid and brother, Ivan DeYoung. Arnold is survived by his wife, of 69 years, Marylin DeYoung; son, Curtiss Paul DeYoung and his wife, Karen of Minneapolis, Minnesota; daughter, Elizabeth Rose Koopsen and her husband, William of Portage, Michigan; sisters, Ardith Flowers of Franklin, Tennessee, Dorcas McAllister of King City, California; grandchildren, Danielle Gibson and her husband, Jordan, Rachel DeYoung, Jonathan DeYoung, Erica Falk and her husband, Sam, Maxwell Koopsen, Joseph Koopsen and his wife, Adele and Dorothy Koopsen, as well as 11 great grandchildren.
