Obituary of Gilbert Ortiz

Gilbert “Gil” Ortiz of Davenport, Florida passed away on Wednesday November 9, 2022. He was 70 years old.  

He was born on Thursday September 18, 1952, in Catano, Puerto Rico to Roberto and Ana Iris Rodriguez Ortiz. Gil moved from Puerto Rico to New York in 1971 with his family and started his career with Con Edison in New York City. In 1986 he relocated his family to New Jersey and in 1992 relocated to the Poconos in Pennsylvania, all the while still commuting every day to the New York City for his job. He had a 33-year career with Con Edison and retired as a supervisor. 

In 2016 he and his family moved to Davenport, Florida. Gilbert was a proud member of the United States Army Reserves, serving for 6 years.  He was of the Catholic faith and loved to be around his family and friends, who were dear to him. Gil is remembered as the entertainer, he truly loved to have a good time and to make sure everybody did as well.  

He was predeceased by his parents Robert and Ana, as well as a brother, Robert Ortiz. Gilbert is survived by his loving wife, of 49 years, Mirta Sonia Ortiz; daughter, Sonia Cardoza and her husband, Paul of Las Vegas, Nevada; sons, Gilbert Ortiz and Nelson Ortiz, both of Davenport, Florida and grandson, Christian Vargas of Las Vegas, Nevada.  

God saw you were getting tired
