Obituary of Marilyn B Groendyke (nee Denk)

Marilyn B. Groendyke (nee Denk), age 82, of Haines City, FL, formerly of Michigan City, IN, passed away on Saturday, December 10, 2022.

Marilyn is survived by her children: Richard W. Groendyke, Carol E. Haller, Robert J. Groendyke, Linda (Michael) Vickerd; grandchildren: Samantha Haller and Christopher Haller and sister: Kathleen Dummer, along with many good friends and neighbors.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband, Robert W. Groendyke of 55 years; and mother Barbara T. Denk.

Marilyn was raised in Chicago IL and was a graduate of St Michael’s High School Class of 1959. Marilyn was a devoted mother to her four children, each of whom she loved fully. After her children were grown, she worked for the Michigan City School System from which she retired.  As an active member of the Lake Region Community, she donated many hours of service to various projects. Marilyn was a member of Queen of All Saints Church in Michigan City, IN and St Ann’s Parish in Haines City, FL. She was an avid reader, loved the crosswords & fishing, tennis, enjoyed baking & cooking, knitting and as being a true northsider from the City of Chicago – a lifelong Cubs fan. Drawing on a well of unconditional love and acceptance extended grace to those around her, Marilyn was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who will be deeply missed.

God saw you getting tired and a cure was not to be, so he put his arms around you and whispered, “Come to Me”.

The family will receive friends from 2:00pm till 5:00pm, December 19, 2022 at Oak Ridge Funeral Care in Haines City, FL, a Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given in Marilyn’s name to Good Shepherd - Forsythe Hospice House, 105 Areneson Ave., Auburndale, FL 33823, or Queen of All Saints Church, 1725 E. Barker Ave., Michigan City, IN 46360.
