Obituary of Luis Fuentes

Luis Fuentes, 74, passed away on January 18, 2023 at the Orlando VA Hospital in Lake Nona, Florida. He was born on June 8, 1948 in Brooklyn, New York. Luis was a proud veteran who served our country in the Unites States Army for 2 years and 10 months while achieving the rank of Private First Class. Upon his honorable discharge, he received multiple decorations like the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal w/Bronze Service Star, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Combat Infantryman Badge, and the Sharpshooter Badge for Rifle and Grenades. Luis worked as a custodian for 20 plus years in Lehman College, NYC. He moved to Florida in 2017 from Toa Baja, Puerto Rico, and he was of the Christian faith.  

Luis will be remembered by his family as a loving, helpful, and caring man. He enjoyed watching TV shows, movies, playing spades, listening to music, cooking for people, but most importantly spending time with his family. In his younger years, he loved playing handball, stickball, paddleball and shooting pool. 

He is preceded in death by his mother, Basilia Fuentes; brothers, Lucas Ortiz and Angel Ortiz; and sister, Dolores Negron. Luis leaves behind to cherish his memory, his sons, Luis A. Fuentes, Darryl Fuentes, Luis Fuentes Jr., Adrian Fuentes, and Jason Fuentes; daughters, Tiana B. Valentin and Emily Fuentes-Paris; sisters, Irma Ortiz, Naomi Ortiz, Belen Ortiz; 20 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and his many nephews and nieces. He will be greatly missed by all.  

A visitation will be held on Friday, January 27, 2023 from 8:30 am to 10:30 am followed by a service at 10:30 am all at Oak Ridge Funeral Care in Haines City, Florida. A committal service with military honors will follow at 2:30 pm at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery in Mims, Florida.
