Obituary of Grace S. Pulis

Grace Rose (Solar) Pulis, age 79, of Haines City, passed away on Friday, February 10, 2023 at Winter Haven Hospital in Winter Haven. Grace was born in Jersey City, New Jersey on August 19, 1943. She was adopted by her Aunt and Uncle, Lucy (Tenzi) Solar and Edward V Solar, as an infant from an orphanage. Grace married James N Pulis on January 19, 1959 in West Milford, New Jersey.

Grace loved working with crafts.  She enjoyed building dollhouses, crocheting, knitting, and needlepointing. She was proud of her planting fruit trees and her specialty of growing roses. She loved riding and driving the Harley with Jimmy. Grace was well-loved and welcomed by the Winter Haven/Haines City biking community where she and her husband were referred to as “Ma” and “Pop” in the community. Singing, playing bass guitar or the autoharp as part of the Jimmy Neil and Gracie Rose Country Music Duo, was most enjoyable.

Grace lived in New Jersey, Texas, and Florida. She worked at Atlas Department Store, Cracker Barrel, Hobby Lobby, and retired from Charles M Watts Air Conditioning Inc of Haines City in 2017.

Family was important to Grace keeping in touch through social media. She was affectionately known as “Gram” to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Grace is survived by her husband of 64 years, Jimmy Pulis of Oak Haven Rehab & Nursing Center, Auburndale; Son, Gary and Faye Pulis of Auburn, Indiana; Son, Kenny Pulis of Fort Worth, Texas; Grandchildren: Renee (Pulis) Baugus, Fort Stewart, Georgia; Stan Loos III and Jenni Loos, Huntertown, Indiana; Brianne and Dan Ash, Brownstown, Indiana; Caitlin Hipskind, Auburn, Indiana; Catherine and Aaron Hissong, Auburn, Indiana; Jovita Muse, Flower Mound, Texas, and Darla Kunston, Watauga, Texas; 14 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren; Brother, Edward and Susan Solar of Milan, New Hampshire.

Grace was preceded in death by her parents; Aunt, Beatrice “Bea” (Tenzi) Champ of Auburndale; brother, Richard Solar of Polk City; daughter-in-law, Donna Pulis of Fort Worth, Texas, and great-great granddaughter, Carla Muse of Flower Mound, Texas.

Other survivors include: Niece, Cindy Holbrook and great-niece, Sara Livingston Hughey and husband, Jason; Nephew, Steve and Barbara Champ and great-nephew, Eric Livingston, who all took great care and had compassion for Grace and Jimmy at celebrated family and holiday times.

A special thanks to the many friends of the local bikers community and the nurses and staff at Oak Haven Rehab & Nursing Center and Winter Haven Hospital.

There will be no services or visitations at this time.

Memorial donations may be sent to an organization of your choice in honor of Grace Pulis.
