Obituary of David L. Causey

David L. Causey, a lifelong resident of Haines City, FL passed away on August 6, 2023, at the age of 81. Born in Haines City, FL, he was the son of William “Bill” and Arcie Yeomans Causey.

He attended St. Augustine School for the Deaf and Blind in St. Augustine, FL, where he enthusiastically participated in football, proudly donning the #14 jersey. He furthered his studies at Southeastern Bible College in Lakeland, FL and dedicated himself to a fruitful career spanning 25 to 30 years at Disney World, where his efforts left a lasting imprint before he eventually retired.

A bevoted member of the Lakeland Baptist Deaf Church, David discovered comfort and a sense of togetherness among his deaf family, finding solace in their company. While he valued his periods of aloneness, his profound affection extended not only to his relatives but also to his beloved dog “Ricky”. David had a genuine passion for classic westerns and held a special admiration for Roy Rogers, the legendary cowboy movie star, and his loyal horse Trigger. He derived great pleasure from watching football, with a particular allegiance to the Miami Hurricanes, his favorite team. David's calm and easygoing nature endeared him to all who knew him. He was known for his gentle spirit, avoiding confrontation, and remaining content in his own company. A true family man, he cherished his loved ones and relished in their presence.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Arcie, and his 3 sisters, Bonnie Irby of Lakeland, FL, Harriet McNair of Valdosta, GA, and Linda Nettles of Houston, TX. David is survived by his sister, Sharon Causey Black of Auburndale, FL, as well as numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. His legacy will forever be etched in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, August 10, 2023, at 10:30 am, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 am all at  Oak Ridge Funeral Care in Haines City, FL. His final resting place will be in Forest Hill Cemetery in Haines City, FL.
