Obituary of Theodora R. Phillips

Theodora R. Phillips, of Winter Haven, FL, passed away on August 25, 2023, at Astoria Senior Living in Winter Haven, FL. She was 93 years old. Born on October 30th, 1929, in North Chicago, Illinois, Theodora was a beacon of warmth and love throughout her life. In 2013, she and her husband made the move to Florida from Gurnee, Illinois, seeking a new chapter filled with sunshine and new experiences.

Theodora dedicated 30+ years of her life to St Therese Hospital as an admission director, leaving a lasting impact on the healthcare community. Her dedication and commitment were unmatched, and she retired in 1986 with a legacy of service. She was a member of the St Paul Apostal Church in Gurnee, Illinois, and she was also an member of the Red Hats Club in Gurnee, a testament to her vibrant and sociable nature.

Theodora's energy for life was evident in her love for travel, which she enjoyed immensely. She had a sharp mind and a love for word puzzles, reflecting her constant quest for mental stimulation. An avid reader, she sought knowledge and found comfort in the written word. Known for her infectious spirit, Theodora was the life of every gathering. Her fun-loving nature, bubbly personality, and boundless happiness endeared her to everyone she met. She was remarkably sociable, known to strike up conversations with strangers and make them feel like old friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jack Phillips; brothers, Walter Rynkiewicz and Carl Rynkiewicz; and sister, Eleanora Zdanowicz. Theodora leaves behind to cherish her memory her son, Jim Phillips and husband, Jeff of Clermont, FL; daughters, Barbara MacDonald and husband, Bob of Gurnee, IL and Kathy Formella of Sturtevant, WI; sister, Jane Norton and husband, Ray of Gurnee, Illinois; grandchildren, Steve, Kimberly and husband Dan and Kristopher and wife, Lia; great grandchildren, Addison, Lauren, Ella, Anna, Declan, Nathan and Eliana.

A visitation will be held on Friday, September 1st, 2023 from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Oak Ridge Funeral Care in Haines City, Florida.
