Obituary of Lueverne Meek
Lueverne Meek of Haines City entered into heavenly rest on September 21st at Spring Lake Rehabilitation Center in Winter Haven, Florida. She was born October 3, 1930 near Cottonwood, Alabama to Johnnie Marion Shepard and Ola Jackson Shepard. At age 14, she met her future husband, Robert Ansley Meek, while both were traveling on a bus from Auburndale to Alabama. At that time, Bob was in the Merchant Marines. A few years later this relationship resulted in a loving marriage on October 23rd, 1947, that lasted almost 56 years until Bob’s death in 2003.
Bob and Lueverne moved to Auburndale where she started a career with Continental Can Company. She would work there for over 33 years, including time spent in Tampa and Perry, Georgia. The family moved to Haines City in 1952 where they made their permanent home. Her family grew with the birth of two daughters, Charlotte in 1950 and Karen in 1959.
She is a member of NorthRidge Church where she was active in her faithfulness through many church activities. She is also a member of the Sandspur Garden Club where she enjoyed many long time friends. Lueverne loved to cook and bake. Many memories were shared around her dinner table with the wonderful meals that she prepared. One of Lueverne’s greatest joys was being a grandmother. She acquired the name “Nana” from her first grandchild, Darryl, and treasured it throughout her life. During her last three years she, and the family as well, were especially blessed to have Rita Johnson as her caregiver and friend.
She was preceded in death by her husband as well as her parents. She is survived by her daughters Charlotte Stangry (Theron) and Karen Curls (Rick), three grandchildren, Darryl Stangry (Kristin), Courtney Stangry Harding (Sean) and R. D. Young (Keyona). She is also survived by great grandchildren, Houston Harding, Hayden Claire Harding, Robert Young, Sophia Young, Maverick Pugh, and baby girl Stangry arriving soon.
The family would like to thank Spring Lake Rehab for the excellent care she received and Compassionate Care Hospice for excellent care as well.
Services will be held at Oak Ridge Funeral Care in Haines City on Tuesday, September 26th, with visitation starting at 10 AM and services at 11 AM. Doctor David Myers is officiating. Memorials may be made to NorthRidge Church, 2250 FL-17 S, Haines City, Florida 33844.
