Obituary of Kaipo Puahala

Kaipo Puahala (83) of Davenport, FL peacefully joined our ancestors on September 28, 2023.

Kaipo was a proud Native Hawaiian born and raised in the town of Lahaina, Maui. He was born to Annie Lani Kaumeheiwa Puahala and Samuel Kauhi Puahala Sr on September 10, 1940. Kaipo was the youngest of 12. He was preceeded in death by 9 brothers,  Samuel Kauhi Jr (Billie), David Peleiholani, Jubilee Kanaiaupuni (Cathrine), Richmond Kealiiokamoku, Erwin Peleiholani, John, Jordan Kapuaaloalo (Mary Ann), William, and Lionel Kaumeheiwa. And 2 sisters, Lorraine Kaiulani Kapaku and Thelma Ululani Takemoto.

Kaipo attended Lahainaluna High School and had been a member of the Emma Sharp Hula troupe before joining the United States National Guard and the United States Army. He served as an Honor Guard at the Punch Bowl National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific. He served in Korea, Germany, the United States and traveled the world. Kaipo was also a member of the Boiler Makers/ Blacksmith Union and he spent the rest of his career with AAFES and the DOD.

Kaipo is survived by his wife of 60 years, Iris and his 2 children, Kaipo Daniel and wife Chantha, Maile Tuula Puahala and husband Jeramy. His grandchildren Michael Kauhi and wife Marissa, Alana Jume, Kaipo Jr and Jeramy Keahilani. And his great-grandchild, Lucas Molokai who he lovingly referred to as Maui. He is also survived by his sisters in law, V. Maile Puahala (Richmond) and Luella Puahala (Erwin) and Roth Kaipo Puahala, godson as well as 100's of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Kaipo had an unconditional love for his family. He loved nothing more than spending time with his children and grand children. He loved watching the kids participate in all sports and taking them to Disney, Sea World and the beach. He was very outgoing and a jokester who loved to travel, dance and socialize. He was loved as much as he loved and will be greatly missed by all.
