Judyth Amos Fort Bowen
4/28/30-10-31-23
On October 31, 2023, Judy Bowen passed away at the age of 93 years old in Haines City, Florida. She was born in Dundee, Florida on April 28, 1930 where she spent her childhood making lifelong friends. As a young adult, Judy moved with her parents, Robert and Geneva Amos, to Winter Haven where she began her career working for People’s Gas. Soon after, she moved to a clerk position for Tampa Electric Company where after many years, Judy retired as a supervisor in the local Auburndale office.
It is in Winter Haven where she met her first husband, Harold T. Fort, the brother of a friend. In 1960, she became “Mama Judy” to her young step-daughters, Vicki and Karen. With Harold, Judy returned to her hometown of Dundee in the 70s, where she enjoyed entertaining family and friends. Reunions with TECO co-workers and spending time with her childhood friends at Dundee Depression Kids events were also an enjoyable pastime.
In 2003, after the passing of their spouses, Judy’s Haines City High School sweetheart, C W “Buck” Bowen came calling. It wasn’t long before they were married. Judy was blessed to gain three adult daughters. Buck and Judy spent 20 years together sharing time with their loved ones before her passing.
Besides her parents, and first husband, Judy was predeceased by her older sister, Virginia “VK” Evans. She is survived by her husband CW “Buck” Bowen and her stepdaughters Sherry Whitley, Karen (Dan) Parker, and Lori (Brynn) Summerlin. Surviving family also includes stepdaughters Vicki (Francis) Hart and Karen (Otto) Hines from her first marriage. In all Judy is survived by her grandchildren Cerisse (Chris) Beard, Daryll (Kim) Winningham, Chad (Nelly)Whitley, Jeremy Parker, Ben Parker, Leah (Spencer) Carter, Sarah (Ryan) Rieder, Chelsey Summerlin, and Connor Summerlin alongside seven great-grandchildren. Also, remembering their Aunt Judy fondly are nephews Rick Evans, Danny Bowen and Mickey Parish; and nieces Cyndie (Larry) Morris, Martha Anderson, Sue Clements, and Betty Quast.
