Obituary of Penelope Mulrain
Penelope Jane Mulrain of Poinciana, Florida, formerly of Wellesley and Auburndale, MA passed away peacefully on October 29, 2023, at the age of 93.
“Aunt Penny” as she was fondly known as by many, lived a profound life, touching the hearts of many, instilling a great work ethic, a generous nature, and a stark flare of feminism when need be.
An avid patron of the arts, Penny spent much of her time enjoying the works of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, old movies, various ballets, and classical music. After retiring from a career largely lived in personnel at Faye, Spofford and Thorndike in Boston, MA, she dove into neighborhood classes taking up painting and sculpture. It turns out she had quite the knack for it!
Her legacy lives on through her generous teachings and sharing of the world with those around her, notably ensuring that her great nieces and nephews were fans of the art world, appreciative of the nature and world around them, and shared a bit of a sweet tooth.
Penny is survived by her Florida family: her companion of many years, Myrna Nauth as well as great friends, Karen Griffin, Teresa and Robert Romero, Lee Tanguay, and Carol and Ray Hennessy. She is also survived by her nieces Laura Baker of Poinciana, Susan Singer and her husband, Pete of Middleburg, FL, and Erica Baker of Green Cove, FL, as well as many great nieces and nephews who will endeavor to make her proud.
She is predeceased by her parents, Edward Mulrain and Anna Leblanc and siblings, Arthur, Mary, Billy, Jimmy, Patricia, all of Auburndale, MA, niece, Gail Mulrain of Hull, MA and nephew, Geoffrey of Poinciana, FL.
Services will be held on November 10, 2023, at the chapel of Oak Ridge Funeral Care in Haines City, FL. Family and friends are welcome to celebrate Penny’s life at a viewing at 9:00 am and services to follow at 11:00 am. Attendees are encouraged to wear a touch of pink in tribute to Penny.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Boston Ballet, an organization near and dear to her.
