Obituary of Oswald Wiley

Oswald Wiley of Davenport, Florida passed away on April 12, 2024, with his family by his side. He was 97 years old.

He was born on June 15, 1926, in Panama City, Florida and had been a lifelong resident of the Polk County area. He was a proud veteran of the United States Navy, having served in World War II in the Pacific Campaign aboard, the USS Eldorado AGC-11, as well as aboard the USS Sanctuary APH-117. After his military duty was over Oswald spent some 68 years as a barber, working as the owner and operator of Ozzie’s Barber Shop for over 50 years. He served as a Davenport City Commissioner and on the Haines City Rotary Club. Oswald is remembered as a man of various interests including, working in his garden, dancing, playing his guitar, painting, woodworking, and spending time with his family. The adoring memory of Oswald will be of him as a kidder, one who was always joking around, he knew life was short, so he made sure to enjoy the time he had.

He is predeceased by his first wife, Sadie and his last wife, Joy; as well as his son Gene and his wife, Cathy, his oldest daughter, Brenda and three brothers and two sisters. Oswald is survived by his youngest daughter, Sandy and her husband, Honcho; seven grandchildren; twenty-seven great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

A visitation will be Wednesday, April 17, 2024, from 10 am until the funeral at 11 am, all at the Crossroads Chapel in Davenport. Final resting place will take place in Forest Hill Cemetery in Haines City, Florida.
