Obituary of Vera Mae Jennings

HAINES CITY - Vera Mae Jennings, 86, of Haines City, FL passed away on May 11, 2012 of respiratory failure. She was born July 24, 1925 and was a lifelong resident of Haines City. She was the lunch room manager for the Haines City Junior High until 1968 when she and her husband opened Jennings Hardware and worked there until their retirement in 1982. Vera Mae was a member of Eastside Baptist Church since 1947 and enjoyed doing needlepoint. After retirement, she and her husband traveled, both here in the states as well as overseas. She is predeceased by her parents, William A. and Rossie L. Mathews; son, Charles R. Jennings, Jr.; brothers, J.D. and James Mathews; sister, Ruby Gaskins; son-in-law, Sam Bunch and great granddaughter, Kaylee Stout. Vera Mae is survived by her husband, of 70 years, Charles R. Jennings, Sr.; children, Charlene Bunch of Lake Wales, FL, William Jennings of Winter haven, FL, John (Linda) Jennings of Gadsden, AL; brother, Norman Mathews of Haines City; 10 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. Visitation will be Sunday from 4-6 pm and the funeral will be at 11 am Monday at Oak Ridge Funeral Care, Haines City. Memorial donations may be made to Eastside Baptist Church or Cornerstone Hospice.
