Obituary of Reece Miles

Reece Miles of Davenport, Florida passed away on June 11, 2013 at the Mike Conley Hospice House in Clermont, Florida. He was 89. Reece was born on June 16, 1923 in Wilkes County, North Carolina to Robert F. and Alice F. Hall Miles and moved to Davenport in September of 1972 from Winston-Salem, North Carolina. While he lived in Winston-Salem he was employed with Haines Hosiery as a machine operator, after moving to Florida he got a job with, and eventually retired from, Barrington Mobile Homes in Haines City, Florida. Reece was a proud US Army veteran, serving during WW II in places such as Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe and he had plenty of interesting stories of his time overseas. He attended Freewill Baptist Church in Haines City and was also a member of the Moose Lodge in Haines City, some of his interests included gardening and music with a special passion for Bluegrass. Reece is predeceased by his parents and all of his siblings, he was the last survivor of 13 children. He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Shirley Miles; children, Shirley (Ray) Lawson of North Carolina, Tim (Nancy) Miles of North Carolina, Teresa (Jimmy) Bowers of North Carolina, Regina (Trent) Borden of Florida, Bonnie Culver of Florida and Susan Tyler; as well as numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. A visitation will be Thursday, June 13, 2013 from 3:00 - 5:00 PM at Oak Ridge Funeral Care, Haines City. Another visitation will be Sunday, June 16 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at Hayworth-Miller Rural Hall Chapel in Rural Hall, North Carolina with the funeral being on Monday at 2:00 PM at the funeral home with Pastor Jon White officiating. Final resting place will be at Forsythe Memorial Park in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
