Obituary of Charles Joseph Satava

Charles Joseph Satava, Jr.,80 of Auburndale passed away Friday, January 10, 2014 from pancreatic cancer at Lakeland Regional Medical Center surrounded by family and friends. A native of Cleveland Ohio, born January 25, 1933, Charles moved here in 1971 from Cleveland. He was a retired Teacher from the Polk County School Board, and was a 25-year member of the Florida High School Athletic Association as a referee, and he was affiliated with the Florida Youth Basketball Association. Charles was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church in Lakeland, and served as Usher for 25 years. He was a life member of the Lakeland Optimist Club; served in the U.S. Navy from 1949 to 1953, and attended the Naval Academy. He received his Bachelors of Science Degree from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland Ohio, and he received his Masters Degree from Rollins College. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather, and enjoyed being with his grandchildren. Charles was preceded in death by his parents: Charles Sr. and Erma Satava, and a brother Donald Francis Satava. He is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Irene; his daughter: Donna J. Apanasewicz (Bob); step-daughter: Sherri M. Kennedy (Mike); step-sons: Michael W. Fuqua (Linda) and Keith Bisesi (Sarah); his nine grandchildren: Samantha, Andrew, Erika (Chase), Austin, Madison, Sydney, Rachael, Izabel, Olivia; and two great-grandchildren: Chase and Marli. Visitation will be Tuesday from 1 to 2 PM at Oak Ridge Funeral Care in Winter Haven. Funeral services will follow at: 2:00 PM from the funeral home chapel.
