Obituary of John Talmadge Powell

John Talmadge Powell was born December 23, 1928 in Black, Alabama, and died June 9, 2014 peacefully at his home in Winter Haven, Florida from Heart Failure. John was a Korean War Veteran and was retired from the US Army. John was a Shriner, a 32nd degree Mason and a lifetime member of Bethlehem Masonic Lodge in Bonifay, Florida. John was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church, Winter Haven, Florida. John was preceded in death by his parents, A.R. and Maudie Powell; son, David Powell; brothers, J.R. Powell, Jr and Walton Powell and sisters, Mona Gainer and Jimmie Wynn. John is survived by his wife, Sandra Powell; daughter, Phyllis Powell Bruner of Scottsville, Kentucky; sisters Julia Worley of Eloise, Florida; Janie Hampton of Winter Haven, Florida; Betty Hough of Lakeland, Florida; Paige Brooker of Lake Wales, Florida and Shirley Grimes of Eagle Lake, Florida and one brother Bobby Powell of Eagle Lake, Florida. John is also survived by 4 grandchildren; Dr. Wayne Bruner of College Station, Texas; Brandalyn Reddick of Ocala, Florida; April Poole of Deatsville, Alabama and Casie Powell of Deatsville, Alabama and 9 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held at Oak Ridge Funeral Care on Havendale Boulevard, Winter Haven at 6:00pm - 8:00pm on Wednesday, June 11, 2014. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00am, Thursday, June 12, 2014 at Oak Ridge Funeral Care. Military graveside services will be held at 11:00am on Friday, June 13, 2014 at Bonifay City Cemetery in Bonifay, Florida. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cornerstone Hospice, 2590 Havendale Boulevard, NW, Winter Haven, Florida.
