Obituary of Kenneth Gene Benner

POLK CITY - Kenneth Gene Benner, 67, of Polk City died Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at his home. He was born February 24, 1947 in Austin, Texas to Edward and Mary Bunah (Wade) Benner. Ken was a member in good standing with the United Brotherhood of Carpenters Local 1266 in Austin Texas for over 40 years, proudly following in his father's footsteps. As a Master Carpenter, Ken had worked for Walt Disney World for the last 26 years. It was said that Ken could build anything from a bookcase to a skyscraper. An avid horseman, Ken enjoyed breaking and training horses. He was a volunteer working with disabled children using horse riding as part of their physical therapy and to help them build self confidence. Ken treasured his time with his own children, teaching them to hunt and fish and helping coach their various sports teams. His children are blessed with many warm memories of camping, hunting and fishing with Dad. Ken was predeceased by his parents and brother David Benner of Weir, Texas. He is survived by his loving ex-wife Kathryn Benner of Woodstock, Georgia; son Daryl (Sylvia) Benner of Canton, Georgia; daughters Debra (William) Dailey of Young Harris, Georgia and Valori (Michelle) Benner of Acworth, Georgia; granddaughter Alexis LaBrake of Jacksonville, Florida; the love of his life, grandsons Trenton and Quinton Benner of Canton, Georgia; many nieces and nephews; and a host of devoted friends at Walt Disney World. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, July 12, 2014 at 2:00 PM at 1175 Cayman Way, Service Building A, Lake Buena Vista, Florida 32830. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the attention of the Horse Protection Organization at the Animal Protection Organization, 20690 NW 130th Avenue, Micanopy, Florida 32667. Oak Ridge Funeral Care Haines City is in charge of arrangements.
