Obituary of Marvin Hurley

Marvin Charles Hurley, or better known as "Chuck," was a man who wore many hats. He was a devoted husband, loving father, supportive brother, loyal friend, caring Pop-Pop, and so much more. Chuck was the type of man who everyone respected and loved. If you knew Chuck, chances are you can recall a time that he made you buckle over in laughter. His smile was contagious, and so was his love. Chuck was born on August 24, 1936 in Neptune, New Jersey. He and his older sister, Dolores, were raised by his parents Marvin and Edythe Hurley in Spring Lake Heights. Growing up, he was a Sea Scout and a Boy Scout. Chuck was the type of person that put others before himself. He was also the type of person who went after what he wanted. One morning in 1952, he laid eyes on a beautiful young lady walking to the bus stop for Manasquan High School. Like a typical teenage boy, he points to her and declares to his friends, "I'm going to marry that girl." He then sat next to her on that bus, and never left her side for 62 years. Chuck and Jan shared that special love that we all long for. The kind of love that makes you believe in those rare things such as love at first sight, and soul-mates. Chuck and Jan were made for each other, and everyone knew that from the moment they met them. They were married on August 18, 1956. His family quickly blossomed after that. Over the next nine years, they had four beautiful girls: Susan, Donna, Joanne, and Diane. Aside from his 4 girls, he was also blessed with 5 nieces and 5 nephews, and of course the Yates boys. Chuck was certainly a family man. He showed undeniable love for his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He's the heart and soul of his family. Though his family was his first and foremost priority, he had many other loves in his life. At the age of 17, he signed with the Air Force, serving 13 months in Korea until eventually coming back to Washington, D.C. He worked tirelessly to start and run several Jersey Shore businesses. He was an animal lover, specifically his beloved miniature schnauzers. He enjoyed golfing with the guys on a sunny day. He is a PER of the formerly known Belmar Elks Lodge. In 2004, Chuck and Jan retired to Davenport, Florida. It wasn't long before he accomplished his longtime dream of working for Disney. He worked in Disney's Magic Kingdom for the last 10 years of his life. He expressed nothing but excitement and gratitude about his new journey with The Mouse. Chuck was taken from us on August 4, 2014 and will forever be missed by his family and friends. His unconditional love for family, work ethic, and selflessness are all qualities that we admire him for. Thank you Chuck/Dad/PopPop for leaving an everlasting light in our lives. Please take the time to reminisce and share happy memories you had with Chuck on this page. It's our turn to make him laugh.
