Obituary of George R Weaver

George Weaver born 12/2/1938 departed this earth 9/2/14 due to complications of diabetes. He was born in Knoxville, TN to Roger and Carrie McKinney Weaver, the third of seven children. His mother died when he was 14 and he felt such an obligation to encourage his siblings to be all they could be. He accepted Jesus as his Savior at the age of 12 and was active at Grace Baptist Church in Knoxville, TN which his grandfather helped found and donated land for its construction. George joined the Navy and served his county for 6 years. While stationed in Florida he met the love of his life, Hilda Dean. They were married for almost 52 years. They moved to Winter Haven in 1969 and became active at Inman Park Baptist Church where he taught a boy's Sunday School class. They later joined First Baptist Church of Winter Haven and have been members of Lake Shipp Baptist Church for 25 years. He loved his church family and especially his Sunday School class. George and his wife owned and operated Weaver's Service Center, Bartow, for 30 years. He worked with Chevron Oil Company for 20 years. George joined the Cypress Gardens Lions Club in 1970. He served the club in many positions including President, also the Bartow and Lake Alfred Lions. He loved his extended family of Lions and became a district governor in 1986. He was a Past President of the Florida Lions Camp, a former director of Southeastern Guide Dog. He was a former past president of Lions International Trading Pin Club. He had collected thousands of pins but he said the joy of meeting people from all over the world was the best part of pin trading. He was also, a member of Masonic Tuscan #6 Lodge in Bartow. George is preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters, Mary Flatt and Alice Caudill. He is survived by his wife, Hilda; daughter Deneece Sharp and husband Tommy; son Darren and his girlfriend, Paige; two grandchildren, Lundyn Weaver and Lindsey Dudeck; 3 brothers Hugh, Herman, and Lewis Weaver, sister, Shirley Kanipes. The family will receive friends from 10:00am till 11:00am, Saturday, September 6, 2014 at Oak Ridge Funeral Care in Winter Haven. Funeral Services will follow at 11:00am in the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow at Auburndale Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Lake Shipp Baptist Church Building Fund, 92 High Street, Winter Haven, Fl. 33880 or Florida Lions Foundation for the Blind, 8804 41st Street North, Pinellas Park, Fl. 33782 or any other Lion entity.
