Obituary of Larry M. Sutton

Larry Sutton, age 83, died December 13, 2014 at the Good Shepherd Hospice in Auburndale, Florida. He was born on February 24, 1931 in Bartow, Florida. He served as a Sargent in the Korean War and received three Bronze Stars. He graduated from Florida Southern College and received his Masters Degree from the University of Florida. In his early years, he worked at the Citrus Experiment Station in Lake Alfred Florida before becoming a founding staff member of Polk Junior College, known today as Polk State College. Mr. Sutton was a retired English Professor and co-authored several English books and authored a series of children's books. Mr. Sutton was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-five years Margalo Roller Sutton, and his son, Jeff. He is survived by his daughters Debbie Griffin, of Orlando, Hollee Kier of Clearwater, Jodi Slautterback of Weston, Florida and six grandchildren: Blake Griffin, Brett and Kacee Kier, and Josh, Lauren, and Luke Slautterback. Arrangements are being handled by Oak Ridge Funeral Care in Winter Haven. The family will be receiving visitors from 6:00-8:00 on Wednesday evening and the service will be at 11:00am Thursday. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Polk State College Foundation in memory of Larry Sutton, for scholarships.
