Obituary of Willaford Ivey

Willaford "Bill" Ivey of Dundee, Florida passed away on January 3, 2015 at the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Auburndale, Florida. He was 91. Bill was born on August 31, 1923 in Maysville, Georgia to Alvin Loyd and Stacy Segars Ivey and moved to Dundee with his wife, Elsie in 1945 after being discharged from the US Navy. He was a cabinet maker, first working for Albrights before venturing off with his own shop, Ivey's Cabinet Shop in Dundee. After retiring from the shop he went to work for the Polk County Sherriff Dept. as a bailiff for some 10 years. while Bill was in the US Navy he went on 2 separate Liberty Ships to deliver food to Russia during WW II and for which he earned the bronze star. He was a member of Dundee Baptist Temple and served one term as Mayor of Dundee, as well as he was retired after 20 years on the Dundee volunteer fire dept. and he was also on the Florida Highway Patrol Auxiliary, starting when the actual program was developed. Bill was also a member of the Winter Haven Lodge #186 F & AM Masonic Lodge. He is predeceased by his parents and his wife Elsie Naomi Ivey as well as 5 brothers and 6 sisters. Bill is survived by his daughter Margaret Britt of Dundee; son, Billy Ivey of Dundee; 4 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Visitation will be Tuesday, January 6, 2015 from 1:00 P.M. until the funeral at 2:00 P.M. at Oak Ridge Funeral Care, Haines City with Pastor Jim Lyle officiating.
