Obituary of Sunny Shupe Shelton

Sunny Shupe Shelton was born in Obion County, Tennessee. She was preceded in death by her husband, Allan Owen Shelton; her parents, Harry and Bertie Shupe; her three sisters - Mary Duncan, Louise Verhine, and Nelle Oldenburg; and her brother, Harry Wayne Shupe. Sunny spent the early years of her life in Hopkinsville, Kentucky, where she met her husband. Early in their marriage they moved to Champaign, Illinois. Sunny volunteered for the Burnham City Hospital Auxiliary in Champaign, and served as President. She helped to organize an auxiliary for the Illinois Central Railroad Hospital in Chicago, later serving on the Illinois State Board. Her husband was Senior Field Engineer and Assistant to the Vice President of the Illinois Central Railroad. They retired in 1977, and moved to Winter Haven. They were active members of the First Presbyterian Church, serving on several committees. Sunny was active in the Winter Haven Hospital Auxiliary until last year, giving more than 10,000 hours of service. Sunny is survived by two children: Brenda Steele of California and Steve Shelton (his wife, Rebecca) of Texas; three granddaughters: Aimee and Erin O'Brien of California, and Lori Dobson (her husband, Jason and their son, James) of Oklahoma, her grandson, Derek Shelton of Texas (and his sons, Tristan and Connor), and two step-grandchildren, Chris Turrentine (his wife, Elizabeth and their daughters, Emerson and Alexandra), and Jennifer Sample (and her daughter, Dannie Lynn). Also surviving are four nieces: Judy Klave of Michigan, Melissa Williamson of Illinois, Janet Robbin of Tennessee, and Jill Finke of Missouri. The family will receive friends from 2:00pm till 4:00pm, Sunday, January 25, 2015 at Oak Ridge Funeral Care in Winter Haven. Graveside services will be held at 11:30, Monday, January 26, 2015 at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Florida.
