Obituary of Calvin L. 'Mike' O'Neill

Calvin L. "Mike" O'Neill,79, of Haines City, Florida passed away on June 20,2013 at his residence. He was born on July 13, 1933 to Calvin Lorraine and Lucille Dockstader O'Neill in Finwick, Ontario, Canada. Mike was a proud member of the US Army serving as a Army Ranger during the Korean Conflict, becoming a US Citizen in 1951 in Tuschon, Korea and with the 508th Military Police later on serving in the Czech Republic Incident in total he had served 12 years in the military and also received the Purple Heart. Mike owned and operated O'Neill's Imported Cars in Haines City for some 18 years, and he taught auto mechanics at the Polk Correctional Facility for 10 years, and also taught computers at Ridge Vo-tech, with his first student being himself. He was a member of Eastside Baptist Church in Haines City as well as being an ordained minister and an ordained elder. He was a member of Disabled American Veterans, and American Legion in Haines City Post #39. Mike's interests were varied, he enjoyed mentoring the youth, including being a little league coach while in Germany and a scout master while in Fort Hood, Texas, he was a historian, in fact he was the president of the Haines City Historical Society and he was also in the process of writing a book. Mike is survived by his wife, of 55 years, Betty Jo O'Neill; sons, Joel (Marie) O'Neill of Haines City, Chris (Becky) O'Neill of Haines City; daughter, Theresa (Kevin) Mahoney of Ormond Beach, FL; 6 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Visitation will be Monday, June 24, 2013 from 10-11 am with the funeral following at 11 am at Oak Ridge Funeral Care, Haines City with Pastor Kevin Mahoney officiating.
