Annie Read

Obituary of Annie Elizabeth Read

On Wednesday, August 17th, Annie Elizabeth “Libby” Read, departed her body and gloriously arrived in heaven, face to face with her savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. Libby, born August 28th, 1932 in rural Georgia and raised in Winter Garden, Florida, was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. William L. Read, her parents, George and Ethel Kuykendall of Winter Garden, three brothers, three sisters and a myriad of loving cousins and friends.

Libby was popular at Lakeview High School in Winter Garden, receiving a scholarship to attend college at the Newcomb School of Nursing at Tulane University where she became a Registered Nurse.  She was an important asset to Dr. Read’s surgical practice in Winter Haven for many, many years.  She also taught Sunday school, was an active member of the Garden Club and several civic organizations in Winter Haven.  Most importantly, she loved the Lord and was steadfast in studying His Word daily, obeying the command to “grow in grace and knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ.”  Her devotion was reflected in her love for her family and friends, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She will be missed by her brother, Louis; her children, Colonel Kim and Countess Hooper, Belinda Floyd, Bill and Allison Read, Barry Read; ten grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren and all of you who knew and loved her.

A memorial service is scheduled at Oak Ridge Funeral Care, Winter Haven, FL. on Friday, August 26th.  Visitation is at 1:00 PM, followed by a memorial service at 2:00 PM. A fund has been setup to support Libby’s grandson’s ministry at:

Refuge Church, PO Box 132016  Houston, TX 77219
