Obituary of Margaret Sykes

Margaret Sykes, 85 years old, passed away on Thursday, October 12, 2023, at Good Shepherd Hospice. She was the widow of Harold Sykes, and they shared 30 years of wonderful marriage, prior to his passing in 1987.

Born on September 26, 1938 in Tupelo, Mississippi, Margaret was the daughter of Silas and Ida Bell Garett Waid. She worked as a waitress for many years. In later years, she assisted her husband in managing their trucking business. After his passing she worked at the Dial Corporation in Auburndale, Florida, retiring in 2000 at the age of 62.

Margaret was a lifelong member of the Central Church of Christ in Haines City. She enjoyed decorating and helping others. She will be forever remembered as the matriarch of our family, for her loving ways, and always being available for her children and grandchildren. She was a strong and determined woman, mother and grandmother. Margaret was always the one to go to if you needed help with the children, if you needed a break and needed someone to watch the kids for a little while. She had a big hand in raising her grandchildren and great grandchildren, even after sending her daughters and son off into the world.

She is survived by her children, Debra Parker and Bill Parker, Pamela Sykes, Angela Sykes, and Harold Sykes and Billie Jean Sykes; grandchildren Shawn Parker and Stacy Parker, Chase Klawon and Austin Klawon, Ashley Loperena, Little Harold Sykes, and Courtney Sykes as well as great grandchildren Kaytlyn Parker and Luke Parker, Quinn Klawon, Julian Concepcion and Kai Concepcion, Emma Sykes and Elijah Sykes as well as Serena and her family, Elizabeth, Kerri, Christopher, Heather and Kyle.

The viewing will be from 10 AM until the funeral service at 11 AM at Oak Ridge funeral Care in Haines City, Florida on Tuesday, October 17, 2023. She will be laid to rest in Forest Hill Cemetery, beside her husband, Harold.
