Obituary of Joan E. Douglas

Joan E. Douglas, 90, died peacefully in her asleep on November 4, 2023. She was born on January 1, 1933 in South Bend, IN to Joseph and Floy Esther Stockdale Swoboda.

Joan moved to Florida in 1986 from Memphis, TN and worked as a clerk for 18 years at different places, including the State Technical Institute of Memphis in Tennessee, Polo Park in Davenport, FL and the Polk County Sherriff’s Office in Bartow, FL. She was a former member of St. Louis Catholic Church in Memphis, TN and she followed the Christian faith.

Joan found happiness in cooking, drawing, painting, and in music. She was a ham radio operator and a published and award-winning poet. She was an avid animal lover, who dedicated her time as a volunteer at the humane society, exemplifying her profound love for animals.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Floy; husbands, Richard Fox and Ron Douglas; and her great grandson, Jax McCulley. Joan leaves behind her son, Brian Fox of Haines City, FL; daughter, Debby James and husband, Jimmy of Cordova, TN; grandchildren, Christina Marbury and husband, Robbie, April Darnell and husband, Jaron, Christopher McCulley and wife, Katie, and Robert McCulley and wife, Alicia; and 8 great grandchildren.
