Obituary of James Allen Urbanawiz

James Allen Urbanawiz, 73, of Davenport, FL, passed away on November 14, 2023, at his residence, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on December 28, 1949, in Midland, Michigan, to William Alfred and Laura L. (Hauri) Urbanawiz.

James proudly served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam war, achieving the rank of Aviation Storekeeper Third Class (AK3). His dedication and service were recognized with various service medals, including a Navy Commendation medal for a rescue he made at sea.

In 1999, James retired from General Motors and made Florida his home. Over the years, he worked diligently as a security officer for Disney World. After retiring from Disney, he worked as a security guard for various hotels and hospitals. James was not only committed to his professional responsibilities but also dedicated his time as a volunteer for the Coast Guard Auxiliary, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), and Disabled American Veterans (DAV).  He also had a passion for aiding his communities as a firefighter, serving on the General Motors, Homer Township, and Davenport Fire Departments.

Beyond his service, James found joy in being a husband, father, and grandfather. He loved his animals, most recently his dog, Bob. Throughout the years, he filled his free time with various hobbies. James was an avid fisherman and hunter, enjoyed the peaceful game of golf, and had a passion for exploring new places through travel, especially if it involved palm trees and sandy beaches. James Allen Urbanawiz will be remembered for his patriotism, work ethic, and the love he shared with his family and friends.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 10 years, Clara Urbanawiz; sons, Brian Urbanawiz and Aaron (Jessica) Urbanawiz; daughter, Casey (Ryan) Baumann; stepson, Jordan Giddy; stepdaughters, Amber (Eric) Laylon and Jackie Giddy-Eusebio; brothers, Larry (Sue) Urbanawiz and Joe Urbanawiz; sisters, Linda Tucker and Marti Bohnow; fifteen grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by a brother, William Urbanawiz.

A visitation will be held on Friday, December 1, 2023 at 1:00 pm followed by a funeral/military service at 2:00 pm all at Oak Ridge Funeral Care in Haines City, FL.

A celebration of life will take place in Midland, Michigan summer 2024.
