Obituary of Anton Bruce Dutton

Anton Bruce Dutton died peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday, December 6, 2023, at the age of 90 in his home in Lake Wales which he shared with his wife.

Known to his family and friends as Bruce, he was born in Springfield, Massachusetts on October 24, 1933 to his parents Francis and Emily Dutton. Bruce is survived by his wife of 67 years, Joanne (89), their four children, Holly (66), Brian (64), Craig Sr. (62), and Tracy (57), as well as his sister Frances (80), seven grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren.

Bruce worked for the New England Telephone company as an equipment installer which he retired from in 1989 at the age of 55. He was immensely proud to have been retired longer than he worked.

Bruce served in the Army from 1953 to 1955 and was stationed in Japan.

Bruce had a keen love for the outdoors which he passed down to his children and their children. He lived in Chester, VT from 1989 – 2001.

Bruce was a resource to anyone who needed help whether it was fixing an outlet, installing a ceiling fan, or offering advice.

He was a skeet shooting referee with the National Skeet Shooting Association (NSSA) where he was inducted into the “Referee Honor Roll” Hall of Fame in 2017, as well as awarded the Florida Skeet Association (FSA) “Referee of the Year” in 2006.

Bruce thoroughly enjoyed watching the Patriots or Bruins. Most recently, Bruce could be found at his local bridge club where he played cards often.

Bruce will be interred in the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery located at 1390 Main Street in Agawam, MA 01001 at a date to be determined.
