Obituary of Carl Miller

Carl Francis David Miller was the sixth of seven children born to the late Keith and Therese Miller. He and his siblings were raised in Corona, NY.

Carl attended Blessed Sacrament School and B.S.S. Church where he and his family were parishioners. In his youth, he, like his brothers, became a Boy Scout with Troop 79. He was involved with the troop for fourteen years, eventually becoming an Assistant Scout Master. It seems that Carl took the oath ‘to help others’ to heart because he was always helping others in need. During his more than 25 years of sobriety, he continued to serve as a mentor and father figure to anyone who crossed his path.

Carl attended Food and Maritime High School and Newtown High School (Class of 1979). It was at Food and Maritime High School where his enjoyment of culinary arts really took off. He dabbled as a chef and ran several kitchens as an Executive Chef. Carl had a very discerning palate from his time as a chef. But sampling rich foods was his downfall, so he changed careers and became a commercial driver. He was proud to have been a member of the Teamsters International for seventeen years.

He still loved food and continued to receive great pleasure from cooking for family and friends.

Carl was very interested in sports, especially football (Jets), and the martial arts. Green was his favorite color, (‘like the Hulk’, he said – as a child, he thought he was invincible). Some of his other favorite things were the great outdoors, meeting new people, music, and being a DJ. He and his best friend Gordon were nicknamed DJ C and Master G back in the 1970’s. Carl really loved the Star Wars movies and was ecstatic when he attended a premiere in 2005 and ended up being quoted in the New York Post newspaper.

Carl met his future wife, Carol, when both were kids living in their old neighborhood in Corona, where both families lived on the same block. Many years later, their childhood friendship developed a spark that became a loving relationship that culminated in marriage on February 21, 2018. They relocated to Winter Haven, Fl. where they had almost 6 years of wedded bliss.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents, Keith and Therese, brothers Wayne and Keith, and sister Karen. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Carol; siblings David (Tatiana), Deborah, and Anthony (Carla); nieces Katherine and Rachel; nephew Liam; great niece Ariana; 18 godchildren; and a host of cousins, relatives, and loving friends. He also had a circle of friends that he referred to as his ‘brothers and sisters from another mother’.

Carl held a special place in our hearts; however, God loved him more. We loved him, But God loved him best and took him home to rest.
