Obituary of James H. Seymour, Jr.

James Herbert Seymour, Jr., 77, of Polk City, Fl. Passed away Tuesday April 2, 2024 at Lakeland Regional Health.

Born March 31, 1947 in Winter Haven, Fl. He was a life long resident of Polk County. In 1970 he moved to Wyoming where he became a guide and outfitter for deer, antelope, elk, bear and mountain lion. These trips included pack trips on horses and mules. Winter months, he enjoyed involvement with Arctic Cat Snowmobiles and raced on the company’s team.  Most recent hunts included mule deer, antelope, elk, prairie dogs, and wild free-range buffalo on the Crow Indian Reservation. Hunting and fishing were a large part of his life along with ranching, gunsmithing, wood working and conservation work. In his leisure time his adventurous spirit led him to fly various types of small planes / helicopters, piloting and building airboats as well as traveling with his wife, family and friends about Florida and mostly the West.

His love for hunting led him to promote and offer Osceola Turkey Hunts in Central Florida.  These Turkey Hunts have offered him the opportunity to meet some of the most well know turkey hunters and call makers including the pleasure of making videos with Harold Knight and David Hale of Knight and Hale Game Calls.  Other well-known turkey enthusiasts included, Neal Cost, the Stradivarius of turkey call makers, Earl Mickel, writer of many published books on call making, Albert Paul, of Paul’s Calls and Peck Martin, of Martin Brothers Taxidermy and Calls.

Jim often said he had been fortunate to do most everything in life he ever wanted to do –the sign of a life well-lived!

Jim is survived by his wife of over 20 years, Mary Jane Seymour, Sister-in-law Pati Sieg, sister Sharon Seymour Watson, Nephews; Troy Daly (Abby) Reid Daly (Amanda) Gregory Blake Anderson (Sharon) William Hunter Watson; and nieces Audra Mosser (Rick) Carrol Watson Bennett (Carlin) and Casey Watson.

 James was predeceased in death by his parents James H. Seymour Sr. and Beverly, sisters Karen Seymour Daly and Deborah Seymour Davidson.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Oak Ridge Funeral Care, 2425 Havendale Blvd. Winter Haven, Fl 33881 on April 20, 2024, 10:00AM.  In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your charity of choice in Jim’s honor.
