Obituary of Emilia Osteika

Emilia Osteika, 101, of Winter Haven, Florida passed away on April 20, 2024 surrounded by her family. She was born on September 17, 1922 in Panevezys, Lithuania. She studied nursing at Kaunas University where she received her degree in 1942. She moved to Germany with her husband Alexander and then finally immigrated to Detroit, Michigan in 1947. 

She and her husband Alexander raised their family in Detroit where they were proud members of Divine Providence Lithuanian Catholic Church.  Emilia was a lifelong learner. In 1963, she completed her cosmetology degree and worked for several years as a hairdresser.  Later she also attended Schoolcraft College where she earned an Associate’s Degree in Childhood Development in 1984. 
She and Alexander then moved to Winter Haven, Florida in 2004. She was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church. She enjoyed gardening and spending time with her family. 
Emilia is preceded in death by her parents Pranas and Julia Ivanauskas, her husband of 66 years Alexander and daughter Rita Kushlak. 

She is survived by her daughters, Loretta (James) Sanders, Christine (Dave) Haskin; son in law, Ken Kushlak. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Paul Kushlak (Nell), Melissa Kushlak, James (Jessica Walsh O’Sullivan) Sanders III, Lily Haskin; great grandson, John Kushlak. 
She will be missed by all who knew her and loved her. 

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:00am, on Friday May 3, 2024 at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 1991 Overlook Drive, Winter Haven, Florida 33884. Interment will be at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Southfield, Michigan.
